Creating Traditions with Food.

Yee sang or Yusheng is a prosperity toss salad. It consists of many variations of carrot, mango, pomelo, cucumber, raw fish (salmon) and something crispy! Also, don’t forget the special sauce as well. Did you know? the ingredients you put in represent different meanings e.g. carrots are put in for the blessing of good luck.

I have made it a tradition (7 years strong) to create the salad in the shape of the Chinese Zodiac sign of that year. This year is the ‘Year of the Dragon (2024)’ so I created a Dragon using the ingredients of the Salad.

Once it is made, you all gather as a community/family to toss the salad in big motions with chopsticks. You will say all your wishes for the year and bring in good luck.
